In between the Do’s and Don’ts, lies the real message. Yes, it is quite accurate as you can read anywhere about 10 or 20 essential habits of a UX Designer. But in the fluidity of time, you do have to inculcate some. Habits are just like a multi-layered strainer; once established, they refine you well. The same goes for those habits which apply to a profession. They give you a sense of self-validation once you are up with the work.

So, here we go!

Be a nuanced observer:

To create things, you need to analyze them well. A UX designer's mind needs to be a creative mind, and that creativity has to be fuelled by the observation. Your surrounding teaches you well. Learn to connect the dots, and believe me, you will never run out of ideas. Inspiration is stray, and when you are a collector of it, you will see that your bags are always full.

Be a user first then a designer:

Empathy with the user is your foremost key. Once you put yourself in the shoes of your user, you will never get stuck. A user dilemma is what you are actually dealing with. There is a user checklist that has to be pinned up. Remember, not every user is a pro, and the simplicity of your work makes it better. Your ability to translate the user experience into a comprehensible domain is what matters the most.

Communicate more and simple:

A well-expedited team runs a long way. It would be best if you communicate your idea well within your team and with your users. A conversation with a complex tone always loses on the basic. Just think of attending a lecture at the end of which your mind is as blank as the paper of your notebook. There is a functional aspect that you need to trace well. Once you are able to establish well what you want and to try to say at both ends, your team will act complimentarily, which ideally it should, and your users will not have to think much.

Paper Prototyping:

Pen before Pixel is a great way. Once you sketch your ideas on a paper or a design flow, half of your task is done. It increases the scope of improvement multi-folds, and you can also imbibe the suggestions in your final design. Rejection on paper is better than on the screen.

Archive your work:

For inspiration and glitch-free designs, go back to your own work as much as you can. There is a lot of searches which goes into a single project, and you can always utilize the acquired knowledge for your new projects.

Note making is essential:

When the idea of the work is communicated, jot down as much as you can. Do not burden your memory much because when you rummage it, you will find nothing from it. So, it is better to have vital pointers in hand.

Visit your judge often:

Your users are the real judges of your design, so it is important that you visit the usability testing sessions more. Once you are able to understand your users well, your designs will start getting flawless day by day. Seeing them using your product and facing the errors will provide you a vital insight.

Criticism is healthy, take a dose when needed:

Getting your work scrutinized is quite a dose one could get. So, take it well. Those evident glitches can be easily eliminated, but real problems need the analysis of the experts. So, it could be a great learning experience.

Listening is Learning:

Active listening is an art. When you do that, you create ample space in your mind for everything, which is essential. In that case, your mind tends to restrict everything which is not required. You filter your own thoughts in a way. This is a conducive activity which as a UX designer, you should practice.

A good designer is a good story-teller:

When you build a storyboard, you capably provide a link to your user. If you don’t want to go that far, then your design, at its inception,   it way too much. It gives you a firm ground on which you conceptualize.
